
DANIELA KON

Kon is an award winning documentary filmmaker, producer and consultant with over 10 years expertise in global humanitarian development and social impact media.
Born in Frankfurt, Germany, she has worked with filmmakers, NGOs and aid organizations in Cambodia, Thailand, India, Bangladesh, Israel, Liberia, Senegal, and the US creating documentaries and advocacy campaigns about a plethora of humanitarian and human rights issues. Her film credits range from the award winning documentary TALIBE, the United Nations FAO Ending Hunger Campaign, and the UN GCARD, to collaborations with grassroots initiatives in Education, Voluntourism, Youth Leadership, Girls and Women’s Empowerment, LGBT Rights, Water Management, Agricultural Development, Children’s Rights, and Modern-day Slavery.
Kon is a member of CAP with Creative Visions Foundation, a board member of the HRW Film Committee and the Women’s Rights Committee of Human Rights Watch in Los Angeles, a producer and strategist for social issue documentaries, impact media productions, and international advocacy campaigns. In 2012, Kon founded the Social Impact Media Awards (SIMA) and currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
Kon completed her BA in Media and Cultural Studies (w/First Class Honors), and MA in Documentary Production (w/Merit) at The London College of Communications and Royal Holloway, University of London. In 2003 she was a production assistant for Killer Films in New York. In 2004/2005 she worked for Emmy award-winning director Marc Levin’s NYC Production company, Blowback Productions, and was the researcher and assistant editor for “Protocols of Zion,” an Official Sundance Selection. She founded DEEDA Productions in 2006 and has worked in the human rights and development sector ever since.
As Director of DEEDA and SIMA, Kon is committed to advance the culture of social-impact filmmaking and to supporting filmmakers and change-makers in their work. She is currently producing a documentary about transgender identity-politics in the US, a film about inner city youth program, Street Poets with Director, Vanessa Crocini, and amplifying SIMA Film Programs that maximize impact and exposure of SIMA selected films, through partner festivals, educational and advocacy forums around the world.
